Arts and crafts

A large amount of items dated to the Medieval Period have been discovered at the site. The most abundant artefact category is pottery but coins, utilitarian and decorative bronze object, a variety of small glass vessels and various beads and bangles have been discovered as well.

Pottery

Medieval pottery from Salut includes a wide range of domestic wares such as water jars, cooking pots, large storage vessels and fine glazed wares. Glazed wares could be compared and dated to types typical of the 12th-13th centuries AD, which represent the main period of Islamic occupation at the site.

Glass

Imported vessels in glass are among the most interesting findings dated to the Medieval Age. Several different shapes have been found and gave a significant contribution to the study of trade in Oman during the 12th and 13th centuries AD.
